MEMBER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE – MBE

On the 4th December 2009 Avtar was asked to attend Buckingham Palace to be given his Member of the British Empire Medal (MBE). In Avtar’s words “It was a great day and I’d like to thank Her Majesty for recognition of my work”. Avtar Sandhu MBE

Having heard the news about being awarded an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen, Mr. Sandhu said ‘I am extremely proud to have been honoured in this way. Enhancement of community relations is something very close to my heart, its something my late father Darshan Singh Sandhu MBE was keen on and I’m very privileged to be in a position to be able to continue in his footsteps, I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage more people, particularly the youth of today, to play a more active roll today in local and national issues, we all need to spare time to help others, life’s not all about me, me, me.’

The Cabinet Office said 72% of the 984 recipients of the awards on this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours main list are “ordinary people who have made a real difference” to life in their communities.
