Mayor Marks 10th Anniversary of SME

On Thursday 16th April, the Mayor of Dartford Cllr. Avtar Sandhu MBE was invited to mark the 10th Anniversary of Lollipop Events in the Orchard Shopping Centre Dartford. The setting was in the company's original and well established business, Lollipops Nursery on the 1st floor of the shopping centre. Mayor Marks 10th Anniversary of SME

During the visit the Mayor was introduced to the team who run the business including 3 apprentices who have recently joined the growing company. As part of the welcome, company Director Rachelle Harte outlined how pleased she is to have played a part in the development of Dartford Town Centre. She stressed the importance of having a good understanding of the town, its residents and also the local authority and said 'the combination of all three is what makes a successful business'.

In his address, Cllr. Sandhu highlighted that it's the small and medium sized businesses which are the real focal point of Dartford and without companies like Lollipops and others the town would simply be taken over by the multi nationals.

Whilst we need the big high street names to bring people into the town, its vital to have the right mix of smaller independent businesses which can offer a more personalised local approach to the town centre.

Cllr. Sandhu described Mrs Harte and Lollipops as 'The Hub for local businesses, tonight's function with local business people and customers of Lollipop's was a prime example of how people and businesses work well together'.

He went onto explain how on Saturday 25th April the Orchard Shopping Centre shall be home to a 'Wedding Fair' themed event in which local businesses shall be displaying their products available for the wedding market, this event instigated by the Mayor is being organised and run by Lollipop Events - the free event is looked at as another way of offering something different to the town centre on Saturdays' famous market day.
