Kent County Councillor Avtar Sandhu was allocated funding from Kent County Council for highway issues. Through this Avtar and local councillor Michael Street both decided to look after their residents by supplying bags of grit and further expanding upon this by also providing snow shovels. It was decided by them that the grit and shovels would be distributed throughout various points in Dartford North East (Newtown, Littlebrook and Joyce Green Wards).

The grit and shovels are to be ONLY used on the pavements for the purpose of clearing the snow (if required).

A list of ALL the roads who have been given bags of grit and shovels is available below along with the contact details of the person who they have been given to. (to be updated)

What to do if you need some grit

Contact the resident who is on the road (details below) and if they have enough to spare they shall supply you with some. Please be aware that grit supplys are NOT enough to cover every resident and so please ALL WORK TOGETHER towards making Dartford North East a safer area in the snow.

Notice and Guidence for EVERYONE clearing the footpaths with and without grit

I thought it would be useful to forward you a couple of links giving information which may be of use to members of the public who wish to clear snow and salt footways.

The first is a link to the Government’s website which gives some legal guidance around what people can reasonably do , and the second is from the KCC website which is more about how to spread salt in an effective and non-wasteful way.
