Visit to Kent Mountain Centre

Visit to Kent Mountain Centre

Kent Mountain Centre, situated in Llanberis, North Wales, is an outdoor education centre. It is at the foot of Snowdon, next to Padarn Lake and is run by fully qualified professionals who allow the visitors to undertake activities such as mountain climbing and scrambling, rock climbing, gorge walking, sea level traversing, problem solving, orienteering, canoeing and kayaking.

The centre is able to cater for up to groups of 45 at a time and this includes accommodation.

In 2011, Kent County Councillor Avtar Sandhu visited the Kent Mountain Centre to partake in the activities that the children take part in when they are there. This included rock climbing, walks and much more.

Highway Repairs

The depreciation of the highways in Kent is something that is high on Councillor Sandhu's priorities. Per Avtar Sandhu Highway Repairs annum, Avtar receives 25,000GBP to help towards different projects to help keep the standard of Kent's highways and roads up to scratch and the best they can possibly be. One problem that part of the budget is spent on is pot holes- due to our terrible weather during the winter months, the road surfaces can break up in certain places, causing potholes, but are dealt with as swiftly as possible.

One example of current work that is taking place due to Avtar's budget being allocated to a certain project is on Mount Pleasant Road where part of the road is being completely resurfaced for a much smoother and better experience for residents and drivers alike.

Wellcome Avenue has been a big point for discussion over recent times as the pedestrian right of way was overgrown with greenery and very difficult to walk through. However, Councillor Avtar Sandhu Avtar Sanshu Wellcome Avenue along with Dartford Council arranged a project to help the residents of Wellcome Avenue by clearing the pathway.

The project was achieved by Avtar Sandhu joining with a Community Payback scheme to help tackle the problem. The group donned high visibility jackets and took to the pathway to clear the greenery barricades with shears and shovels.

The project helped both the community and the individuals partaking in the community payback scheme - the walkway is clear for all to use and the individuals that took part played a vital role in helping to support and enhance the community, at the delight of the residents of Dartford.

Mount Pleasent Road Repairs 2013

Mount Pleasent Road Repairs 2013

Throughout the winter months, the weather deteriorates and leads to the damage of the roads throughout Dartford. This problem is a very high priority at many of Councillor Sandhu’s surgery meetings and so is a top priority of Avtar’s. One road in particular that was showing a lot of depreciation was Mount Pleasant Road in Dartford North East – with uneven road surfaces and potholes, it was not in a very good way. Therefore Avtar spend part of his highway repairs budget in the complete resurfacing of part of the road to give a smoother and more pleasant experience to both drivers and residents.

Deputy Mayor of Dartford Avtar Sandhu MBE officially opened this year's Christmas time pantomime at the Orchard Theatre on the 26th September 2013. The Pantomime, which will run from the 14th December 2013 to the 4th January 2014 will be the story of Cinderella and will be put on by Qdos Entertainment - the largest pantomime company in the UK.

The pantomime is home to a star studded cast including the TV host and actor Bradley Walsh. Avtar attended the ceremony and took time to pose for pictures with the actors and actresses in the Acacia Hall grounds near Dartford Park.

The Orchard Theatre itself has seen record number of ticket sales for pantomimes in recent years as Qdos Entertainment has brought their dazzling special effects and 3d imagery. Cinderella is tipped to be one of the biggest yet and Deputy Mayor Avtar Sandhu said, 'It is such an honour opening something that brings the likes of Bradley Walsh to Dartford. Pantomimes bring Dartford together around Christmas time and New Year and I am glad to be a part of it.'

Avtar was invited to attend by the organisers and after the event he said, 'It is great to see all of the hard work and dedication the residents of Dartford are putting in to support such a great cause which I am sure is close to many of their hearts. Armed Forces Day

Armed forces day (formally Veterans Day) is an annual celebration throughout the country to celebrate our servicemen and woman, both living and dead for the commitment they have shown towards their country.

On Monday 24th June 2013, Avtar Sandhu MBE joined fellow members of Dartford Borough Council at a memorial service to show his respects for both our serving and fallen soldiers.

KCC Election Dartford

KCC Election Dartford

KCC Election Dartford

Avtar Sandhu MBE is standing for re-election in the KCC County elections in May 2013. Before Avtar was elected in 2009, communication between the residents of Newtown, Little Brook and Joyce Green which make up Dartford North East and their councillors was an issue. However, Councillor Sandhu increased this communication dramatically by hosting regular surgeries for his residents to ask questions and have them answered.

Since being elected, Councillor Sandhu has really brought the community together through various events. One particular event was a Diamond Jubilee celebration in Temple Hill in which great numbers of the local community came to celebrate the glorious occasion with ice cream, entertainment and more in which Avtar was very involved.

Unfortunately Avtar did not get re-elected and is now only part of Dartford Borough Council.
