Macmillan Coffee Morning

The Deputy Mayor of Dartford, Avtar Sandhu MBE attended a Macmillan Cancer fundraising coffee morning on 26th September 2013. The event was held at Hesketh Park Bowls Club's hall in Dartford where small stalls were set up to sell cakes, tea, coffee and small raffles were put on with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Research.

Avtar was invited to attend by the organisers and after the event he said, 'It is great to see all of the hard work and dedication the residents of Dartford are putting in to support such a great cause which I am sure is close to many of their hearts. It makes me and should make all Dartfordians proud.'

Macmillan Cancer Research ask people across the UK to hold coffee mornings for their friends, families and local residents where all of the proceeds go to the charity. In the year 2012 Macmillan raised a record 15,000,000GBP from coffee mornings and are well on their way to another good fundraising year thanks to the people of the UK.

Armed Forces Day

Armed forces day (formally Veterans Day) is an annual celebration throughout the country to celebrate our servicemen and woman, both living and dead for the commitment they have shown towards their country.

On Monday 24th June 2013, Avtar Sandhu MBE joined fellow members of Dartford Borough Council at a memorial service to show his respects for both our serving and fallen soldiers.

KCC Election Dartford

KCC Election Dartford

KCC Election Dartford

Avtar Sandhu MBE is standing for re-election in the KCC County elections in May 2013. Before Avtar was elected in 2009, communication between the residents of Newtown, Little Brook and Joyce Green which make up Dartford North East and their councillors was an issue. However, Councillor Sandhu increased this communication dramatically by hosting regular surgeries for his residents to ask questions and have them answered.

Since being elected, Councillor Sandhu has really brought the community together through various events. One particular event was a Diamond Jubilee celebration in Temple Hill in which great numbers of the local community came to celebrate the glorious occasion with ice cream, entertainment and more in which Avtar was very involved.

Unfortunately Avtar did not get re-elected and is now only part of Dartford Borough Council.

Kent County Council Dartford

The Kent County Elections in Dartford are occurring in May 2013 and current councillor Avtar Sandhu MBE is hoping to gain another four years in order to help the residents of Dartford North East even more.

Avtar received around 40,000GBP of funding to use throughout his four years and has managed to give part to local organisations that have benefitted greatly from the funding. As well as this, Councillor Sandhu has spent parts of his funding on traffic calming methods such as road humps and signage in residential areas with warnings. Avtar has done much work on the resurfacing of roads in the Dartford North East area including Mount Pleasant Rd.

Avtar has supported many local occasions and events such as the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Temple Hill and the 'Walking Bus' which encourages young children to walk to school. Councillor Sandhu has shown Dartford to the likes of the leader of Kent County Council and the High Sheriff of Kent.

Unfortunately Avtar did not get re-elected and is now only part of Dartford Borough Council.

Visit to The Parents Consortium

Visit to The Parents Consortium

Councillor Sandhu visited The Parents Consortium in Hextable on Friday 22nd March 2013 to have a tour of the fantastic facilities. The charity – funded through grants from organisation such as the Kent County Council – gives thousands of parents and siblings a short rest bite from what can be a constant cycle of care. Looking after a disabled child can be very tiring and parents do not get much time to take part in ordinary day to day activities. However the Parents Consortium have amazing facilities to look after the children in the form of specially made showers and lift and great quality care which gives the parents the chance to take a rest bite in the routine.
